LIKEMINDS

LIKEMINDS is the Amsterdam duo breathing new life into disco and R&B. Fusing soul, funk, hip-hop and electronic grooves, LYMA and Rebiere craft a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh, effortless and emotional, built for the stage. They are true like minds, instinctively shaping songs with rich instrumentation, tight grooves and expressive vocals that glide from vintage warmth to percussive energy. After two albums and standout festival sets, they are now shaping their most ambitious project yet, a bold live-focused evolution. LIKEMINDS doesn’t just play music, they create a world where groove meets electricity.

Interview

How would you introduce yourselves?

We’re LIKEMINDS — a duo from Amsterdam redefining the sound of modern disco and R&B. Our music blends soul, funk, hip-hop, and electronic grooves into something that feels both nostalgic and forward-thinking. It started with two like-minded producers—LYMA and Rebiere—who clicked instantly in the studio. No ego, no tension, just a shared love for groove, feel, and emotion. What began as a studio project has grown into a full live band and a deep creative mission: to bring the music we grew up loving to life on stage.

Which song of yours do you think best captures your sound - the one you hope people don’t miss?

If you only hear one song, make it ’Katsu Sunrise’ it’s a clear snapshot of what LIKEMINDS is about: rich harmony, movement-driven rhythms, and emotional storytelling. It captures that "loose but locked-in" feeling we always chase. We’ve always been drawn to both strong songwriting and left-field production, and this track is where those worlds meet.

What is a physical space that’s had a big influence on your musical journey?

Our studio has been like a laboratory — not fancy, but full of character. It’s where our ideas take shape and evolve. A few years ago, we merged our creative spaces and have been refining the setup ever since, shaping it to fit our workflow and sound. Amsterdam itself plays a big role too — the city’s energy, the creative community we’re part of, and the people we’re constantly inspired by all feed into what we do. That collective spirit is a huge part of the richness we feel in our music.

What are ingredients that make up your sound?

Our sound lives somewhere between the warmth of soul and the pulse of the dancefloor. Crying on the dance floor type stuff. It’s built from MPC swing, analog synths, live basslines, and dusty textures — but always with an emotional core. We’re drawn to groove, but also to space. To melody, but also to tension. The real magic happens in the in-between. Our secret ingredient is trust — the kind that lets you follow an unexpected idea, knowing the other will catch it and turn it into something meaningful. And if you listen closely, you’ll find inside jokes and hidden moments woven into the music. Katsu Sunrise, for example, is actually an ode to our favorite chicken sandwich. We also love tucking in tiny samples and textures throughout a record that help tell a larger story — like musical breadcrumbs scattered across the project, waiting to be found.

Which artist/album made you want to be an artist?

LYMA: I’m not even sure I ever consciously decided to be an artist — it just slowly became clear that making music was something I needed to do. It’s less about chasing a career and more about following an instinct to create, and the feeling that some songs I write are meant to be sung by me, even if I don’t always know why. Rebiere: I have always been drawn to artists who blend experimentation with musicality — like Daft Punk’s Homework or D’Angelo’s Voodoo. Albums that are both precise and soulful, where groove and atmosphere create something timeless. That approach to sound and detail continues to influence how we shapes our music.
