Jalen Ngonda is a singer-songwriter known for his soulful voice and impressive musical talent. Ngonda was born in America, but flourished as a musician in Liverpool, England. There, with his artful fusion of jazz, funk, soul, blues and hip-hop, he quickly captured a wide audience and steadily grew stages. Ngonda’s music shuttles not only between genres but also through time, with elements of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s coloring his warm, sharply arranged songs. He characterizes his own work as “a blend of soul and R&B, with a touch of Beach Boys and The Beatles. Last summer, his debut album ‘Come Around And Love Me’ was released and The Guardian described it as follows: “The Liverpool-based US singer channels the golden era of soul on a debut album full of killer choruses and shades of Marvin Gaye.” Ngonda, who has previously shared the stage with Laura Mvula, Martha Reeves, Lauryn Hill and performed at North Sea Jazz this year, promises a sparkling musical journey through time that will be both surprising and familiar.
