Kokoroko

KOKOROKO is an Afrobeat band from South London. The group is led by trumpeter Sheila Maurice-Grey, who brought together the young band members, all hailing from various jazz conservatories in the city. KOKOROKO’s music sounds like a modern take on traditional West African music, inspired by iconic artists such as Fela Kuti, Ebo Taylor, and Tony Allen. In addition to bandleader Maurice-Grey, the group consists of a permanent saxophonist, trombonist, bassist, guitarist, and percussionist, and they regularly invite fellow musicians to join them on stage during their swinging, energetic live shows.
